Step 1:  Watch the short video demonstrating the various areas of the course site to get you familiar with its navigation.

Step 2:  Go to the Documents and Resources Folder and download the syllabus which describes what you will be doing and when. 

Step 3:  Go to the Discussion Forum - Introduction and introduce yourself to your classmates.

Spotlight - Steve Clark

Select the "View On-Demand Recording" button to begin. Stephen "Steve" H. Clark, CRC based in Washington, DC started his freelance court reporting career in 1985. In 1997, he transitioned to a career in realtime broadcast captioning. In 2006, he started Home Team Captions. Home Team Captions provides on-site and remote captioning and CART services in Washington DC, Maryland, Virginia, as well as nationally and internationally. In July 2016, Home Team Captions became part of the Alternative Communication Services (ACS) family of companies. His on-site and remote realtime experience includes working with federal, state, and local governmental agencies; nonprofits, and nongovernmental organizations; educational CART; on-site and remote stadium captioning; and broadcast captioning. Since 2000, he has provided on-site and remote training. This training includes sports captioning, CART captioning, and Broadcast Captioning 101 for experienced captioners and recent graduates who are beginning their broadcast captioning and CART captioning careers.
Spotlight - Karyn Menck

Select the "View On-Demand Recording" button to begin. Karyn D. Menck, Nashville, Tennessee, has worked as a freelance court reporter, a closed captioner, and a CART provider. She has also been a firm owner. Her work has included captioning for hundreds of television stations, ballgames, and religious meetings. She has also provided on-side closed captioning for conventions, stadium events, theater productions, and in the classroom. From 2000-2015, Menck also provided pro bono CART for meetings of the Nashville Chapter of Self Help for the Hard of Hearing/Hearing Loss Association of America (HLAA). Menck is the recipient of the first annual Gwyndolyn Ann Pace Advocacy Award from the HLAA Nashville Chapter, and the Professional of the Year Award from the Mayor's Advisory Committee for People with Disabilities. Meck has been a frequent competitor in the NCRA's National Speed and Realtime Contests and has placed numerous times in all legs of each event. She is a graduate of Gadson State Junior College in Gadsen, Alabama and holds and Associate's Degree in Court Reporting.
Spotlight - Gail Inghram Verbano

Select the "View On-Demand Recording" button to begin. Gail Inghram Verbano has been reporting since 1990, beginning work at the advent of Computer-Aided Transcript. Her career includes working as a per diem reporter in the Orange County and Los Angeles County court systems and doing deposition work in San Diego, California. She now lives in Pennsylvania and spends her time traveling between New York City and Washington DC, covering complex, technical litigation matters. She periodically reports for the World Bank and has worked on many high-profiled cases involving Apple, Google, Amazon, Samsung, and many others. Gail has served on NCRA's Skills Test Writing Committee and as a secretary/treasurer of the Delaware Court Reporters Association and is active as a mentor to young reporters.
