Ann Joyce

Ann Joyce began her career in public defense at the Snohomish County Public Defender, working as a legal "secretary." Two attorneys from the SCPDA and Ann left the office in 1994 to open the Washington Appellate Project, a law firm contracting with the State of Washington to provide representation on appeal to indigent persons. Ann managed the Project for 23 years, growing it to be the most influential public defense appellate firm in the state. After leaving, Ann contracted with the Washington State Office of Public Defense assisting attorneys in filing appeals, conducting training, and implementing the Senate Bill 5046 Program, including authoring the report to the legislature. Ann is now working independently, creating education materials for the incarcerated.
